Installation of a cranked shaft and check of working gaps of radical bearings

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Installation of a cranked shaft is the first step actually of assembly of the engine. It is meant that at this stage the cranked shaft and the block of the engine are already properly cleaned, checked and restored.
2. Turn the engine upside down.
3. Give fixing bolts and uncover radical bearings and/or assembly of their bridge.
4. If did not do it yet, take from the beds in the block and covers old inserts of radical bearings. Wipe beds pure nevorsyashcheysya rags – they have to be perfectly pure.

Check of working gaps of radical bearings

Try not to touch surfaces of new inserts barehanded in order to avoid undesirable contact of bearings with always with the traces of oil and chemically aggressive substances which are present on fingers.


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Wipe backs of new inserts of radical bearings and enclose equipped with an oil flute (if that is provided) halves in the beds in the block. Enclose the remained halves of inserts in the corresponding covers of bearings. Track that uvulas of inserts entered reciprocal landing grooves in beds of the block and covers. Oil openings in the block have also to correctly are combined with openings in inserts.

By no means do attempts to begin to knock an insert resistant to installation in the bed a hammer. Grease with nothing bearings at this stage!


2. The persistent inserts (washers) equipped with flanges have to be established in a bed of the fourth (considering from a GRM drive belt) the radical bearing (see an accompanying illustration).

3. Wipe surfaces of bearings in the block and radical necks of a cranked shaft pure nevorsyashcheysya rags.
4. Check passability of oil openings of a shaft, in case of need clean them. Any foreign particles containing in maslotoka eventually inevitably get to bearings.
5. Accurately lay carefully wiped cranked shaft in radical bearings of the block.
6. Before finalizing a shaft, it is necessary to check sizes working gaps in its radical bearings.

7. Cut the calibrated plastic wire from the measuring Plastigage set pieces, length width of inserts are slightly shorter, and lay on one slice of a wire along each of radical necks of a shaft, parallel to their axis (see an accompanying illustration).

8. Wipe surfaces of inserts in covers and establish the last and/or assembly of their bridge on the regular place. Try not to shift the pieces of the calibrated wire laid along shaft necks. Slightly oil a carving of fixing bolts and screw them, having recorded covers.

9a. In the order specified on an accompanying illustration in three stages tighten bolts of fastening of covers and/or their bridge with the demanded effort (Civic).

Do not allow a shaft provorachivaniye in the course of a fixture tightening!


10. Turn out bolts and carefully uncover radical and/or assembly of their bridge. Put uncovered as an arrangement them on the engine. Try not to damage the flattened-out calibrated wire and do not turn a shaft. If any of covers does not give in to removal, accurately tap it for release by a hammer with soft the brisk.

11. On width of the flattened-out threads measured on the scale applied on packing of the Plastigage set, determine the size of working gaps of bearings (see an accompanying illustration). Compare results of measurements to requirements of Specifications.

12. If the size of a gap goes beyond admissible limits, inserts not of that standard size were perhaps established (see Check of a state and selection of inserts of radical and shatunny bearings of a cranked shaft). Before looking for new inserts, make sure that under the enclosed dirt or oil did not get. If the calibrated wire is flattened out since one end more than from another, it testifies to existence of conicity of a neck (see Check of a condition of a cranked shaft).
13. Carefully remove the calibrated wire from necks, having scratched out all its traces any not too strong tool (for example, edge of an old credit card). As a last resort, it is possible to use own nail, the main thing that on a surface of necks/inserts did not remain scratches and zadir.

Final installation of a cranked shaft

If the engine is equipped with the bridge of covers of radical bearings (B18C1, B18C5, D16Y5, D16Y7 or D16Y8), at first establish into place shatunno-piston group (see Installation of shatunno-piston assemblies and check of size of working gaps in shatunny bearings of a cranked shaft). Then bring all pistons into provisions VMT that they did not disturb installation of a camshaft.


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Carefully take a cranked shaft from the engine.
2. Wipe surfaces of bearings in the block and evenly grease them with a thin layer of molibdensoderzhashchy assembly motive greasing. Do not forget to grease persistent surfaces of the fourth bearing also.

Try not to allow hits of greasing on backs of inserts!


3. Make sure of absoluteness of purity of necks of a cranked shaft, then grease (the same greasing) the surfaces of pins contacting to epiploons and accurately lay a shaft in the block.
4. Wipe and grease surfaces of inserts in covers.
5. Establish on the engine of a cover of radical bearings and/or assembly of their bridge.
6. Screw fixing bolts.
7. In the demanded order, tighten bolts of fastening of covers of all bearings with the demanded effort.
8. Several times turn a cranked shaft manually, checking freedom of its rotation.
9. In summary by means of the probe of lezviyny type or the DTI measuring instrument determine the size of an axial side play of a shaft (see Removal of a cranked shaft). If persistent surfaces of a shaft are not worn-out and are not damaged, and bearings are replaced on new, the axial side play should not go beyond admissible limits.
10. Establish a new back epiploon of a cranked shaft (see Replacement of a back epiploon of a cranked shaft).
